  • Several TPT papers have demonstrated the effects of fluorescence using laser pointers as excitation sources with olive oil, cola, and highlighter inks.1–3 A blue laser incident on olive oil appears to “stop” a short distance into the fluid.3,4 This is the result of the “inner filter effect.” Here we provide a hands-on experiment to further illuminate this effect.
