The relationship between man and environment plays an important role in the geographer's task of explaining the nature and the causes of spatial differentiation. In urban social geography it implies a consideration of the complex interaction between individuals, social groups and the variegated physical and socio-economic environment of the city. The aim of this paper is to provide some commentaries on the theories and ideas relevant to our task.
