  • Resumen
    • The current definition of theme (theme or topic of my predication is the thing, aspect or action that, in my opinion, my hearer knows and is paying attention to) collides frequently with the intonatory criterion. But the agreement between the two criteria is possible: we propose that theme is the view and the degree of knowledge that the hearer possesses -exactly, that is attributed to him- about the designated thing, or aspect or action. From this proposal we derive as well an explanation to three problems ("Some people have red hair;" the conditions for correct use of "there is" and "exists"; the reflexives that do not accept the traditional definition).
