Four possible cases of congenital treponematosis have been submitted to molecular analysis. There remain bones belonged to individuals between 0 and 6 months of age and were inhumated in the crypt of La Ermita de la Soledad (sixteenth century Huelva, Spain). Three of the analysed samples showed positive amplification for the T.Pallidum segment and were subjected to restriction analysis producing the expected frament size. This study confirms that at least two of the buried new born suffered and probably died of congenital syphilis.
