In this paper are shown the first results of a wide study of the Alu insertions in the autochthonous population of Galicia. The polymorphisms of markers TPA25, A25 and B65 are analysed. A total of 359, 170 and 130 individuals have been studied respectively. From the results obtained it is concluded that with respect to reports about other populations in the Iberian Peninsula, The Galician population shows a low insertion frequency of A25 and B65 and a medium insertion frequency of TPA25. These results reveal that the first two Alu insertions are adequate markers for characterising the Galician population.
