This article analyses the two main Feminist themes in Gertrudis Gómez de Avellaneda’s first novel. On the one hand, the social vindication and absolute defense of women’s freedom. On the other hand, the personal poetic expression of the author, anguished by her social inadaptability, looking back at Cuba as the land of lost youth and passion.
