The Azores are a group of 9 Portuguese Islands. Presently with 4329 inhabitants, Flores is one of the less known of these islands, on what concerns the population structure. Severely isolated as a consequence of its peripheral position, Flores has given rise to a population with demographic, social and bio-cultural dynamics patterns that are believed to be unique, but that had never been concisely studied. In order to fill this important gap, and as part of a large research project, a genealogical database is being built for the entire island, from the beginning of the settlement (1675) until the end of the 19th century. In this poster a description of the research project is provided, with special emphasis on the development of the gencalogical software package being used (Analypop). Data concerning one of Flores populations (Poma Delgada) is also provided. Six-hundred and fifty-eight marriages, that occurred between 1760 and 1859 were studied for this population. Consanguinity, Endogamy and Seasonallity were ascertained for the total period analysed. The patterns of surname transmission were also analysed to provide evidence for future genealogical reconscruction.
