  • Resumen
    • Machado-Joseph Disease (MJD) is one of the most common autosomal dominant spinocerebellar ataxias (SCAs) of adult onset in the world (Silveira et al., 1996).In this work the preliminary results of the descending genealogical reconstruction of the Portuguese families with MJD are presented. Several demographic variables were compared between Affected and Control couples to infer about the reproductive success of MJD families, and try to understand why MJD remains in the popujlation from the central region of Portugal.
