Entre 1939 y 1943 se redactaron, por iniciativa oficial, tres proyectos de viviendas protegidas en Tarifa para paliar el déficit residencial de la ciudad, según formulaciones funcionales y económicas de la arquitectura moderna y contemplando para ellas un perfil de humildes habitantes locales. Esta irrupción dibujada de la modernidad en Tarifa fue sin embargo aplazada por motivos militares: esos mismos años se activó el Plan Defensivo del Campo de Gibraltar y las edificaciones previstas en los tres proyectos pioneros fueron suplantadas por construcciones militares. Y el perfil de habitantes inicialmente contemplado fue sustituido por el contingente militar destinado en la ciudad.

Between 1939 and 1943, three subsidised housing projects were drawn up in Tarifa at official initiative to alleviate the residential deficit of the town, according to functional and economic formulations of modern architecture and contemplating for them a profile of humble local inhabitants. However, this planned irruption of modernity in Tarifa was postponed for military reasons: in the same years the Defensive Plan for the Campo de Gibraltar was activated and the buildings envisaged for the three pioneering projects were replaced by military constructions. And the population profile initially envisaged was replaced by the military contingent stationed in the city.
