Characterization of adolescent pregnancy. Hermanos Cruz University Polyclinic

    • Introduction: the impact of adolescent pregnancy begins with the health risks for the mother and her child. Objective: to characterize adolescent pregnancy at the Hermanos Cruz Polyclinic in the period from September 2018 to April 2019. Method: an observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted; the universe consisted of 56 adolescents who became pregnant during the study period and the sample of 50, was selected by simple random sampling, taking into account inclusion and exclusion criteria, theoretical, empirical and statistical methods were used; the variables to be studied gave output to the research objectives. Results: 66 % of the pregnant adolescents belonged to the age group between 17 and 18 years old, with 76 % of them had unfinished pre-university education, 84 % were housewives and 94 % were cohabitating. One hundred percent were nulliparous, 30 % had an associated vaginal infection, 76 % had a normal nutritional status at the beginning of pregnancy and 94 % had a weight gain at the end of pregnancy between 8 and 16 kilograms, the gestational age at delivery was between 37 and 41 weeks. At the end of the study, an educational strategy was designed to modify this health problem in adolescents.Conclusions: adolescent pregnancy is a health problem that requires follow-up and attention in order to improve the indicators of the maternal and infant program.
