    The studies concerning totalitarian regimes are highlighted in the field of Political Science, especially by the topicality of the subject, as well as by the extremely harmful potential of a mentality that contains traces and similarities with the Nazi-fascist conception of the State. Besides contemporary authors, who have analytically approached the nuances of totalitarianism, such as Hannah Arendt and Eric Voegelin, the reflections established by Alexis de Tocqueville and G.K. Chesterton on political philosophy and the reality of human life in its relationship with the world prove to be extremely necessary for the establishment of a holistic view of the phenomenon responsible for the crisis of the democratic regime and, consequently, for the rise of tyrannies that suppress fundamental rights and guarantees. The present work aims at clarifying the totalitarian phenomenon based on the conceptual tools provided by the thinkers mentioned above. Although the works of Tocqueville and Chesterton do not refer directly to the Nazi-fascist regimes, since they lived in a period before the historical manifestations of what we call totalitarianism, their reflections and thoughts transmit timeless lessons concerning the dangers that threaten democracy, freedom and human dignity.     Os estudos concernentes aos regimes totalitários estão em destaque no campo da Ciência Política, especialmente pela atualidade do tema, bem como pelas potencialidades extremamente nefastas de uma mentalidade que contenha vestígios e similaridades com a concepção nazifascista de Estado. Além dos autores contemporâneos, queabordaramdeformaanalíticaasnuancesdototalitarismo,taiscomoHannahArendt,Eric Voegelin, as reflexões estabelecidas por Alexis de Tocqueville e G.K. Chesterton acerca da filosofia política e da realidade da vida humana em sua relação com o mundo se demonstram extremamente necessárias para o estabelecimento de uma visão holística sobre o fenômeno responsável pela crise do regime democrático e, por conseguinte, da ascensão de tiranias supressoras dos direitos e garantias fundamentais. O presente trabalho se propõe a esclarecer o fenômeno totalitário a partir de ferramentes conceituais fornecidas eplos pensadores acima destacados. Embora as obras de Tocqueville e Chesterton não se referirem diretamente aos regimes nazifascistas, visto que viveram em período anterior às manifestações históricas do que conceituamos como totalitarismo, as reflexões e pensamentos por eles estabelecidos transmitem lições atemporais concernentes aos perigos que afrontam a democracia, a liberdade e a dignidade da pessoa humana.
