This paper is an interpretation of Cleopatra’s presence in contemporary pop culture, based on ancient Greek and Roman sources. Also, it draws a parallel between Shakespeare’s tragedies and 20th and 21th century cinematographic production, demonstrating this author’s influence on the construction of the contemporary perception of Cleopatra.

Este artigo pretende abordar a figura de Cleópatra na cultura popular contemporânea, tendo por base as fontes greco-romanas. Estabelece-se também um paralelo entre a tragédia de Shakespeare e as produções cinematográficas dos séculos XX e XXI, demonstrando a sua importância para a construção da figura de Cleópatra.
