    Hai xa un século, a hexemonía deportiva da cidade e a fundación do Celta en 1923 revelaban a necesidade dun novo estadio. Así o recoñecían múltiplas figuras do deporte e a prensa viguesas, entre elas Hándicap.

    Neste proceso, personaxes como Joaquín Fontán, Ricardo Mella Serrano e outras persoas vinculadas á Compañía de Tranvías constituirán a sociedade Stadium de Balaídos S.A. para financiar o proxecto. Á proposta orixinal de Mella Serrano seguiralle o deseño de Jenaro de la Fuente Álvarez, un edificio que, polas dificultades na subscrición de accións, ficará inconcluso

    A century ago, the city’s sporting hegemony and the birth of Celta in 1923 highlighted the need for a new stadium. This was recognised by many figures linked to the sport and the press in Vigo, including Handicap.

    In this process, people like Joaquín Fontán, Ricardo Mella Serrano and other people linked to the Compañía de Tranvías will stablish the company Stadium de Balaídos S.A. to fund the project. The original project of Mella Serrano will be followed by the design of Jenaro de la Fuente Álvarez, a building that, due to difficulties in the subscription of shares, will remain incomplete
