El potencial argumentativo de la estructura informativa: el caso del discurso periodístico

    La estructura informativa y la argumentación son dos fenómenos tan estrechamente relacionados que los recursos de estructuración informativa tienen trascendencia argumentativa y los mecanismos argumentativos conllevan relieve informativo (Fuentes Rodríguez/Alcaide Lara 2002, 224). Por eso, en el presente estudio pretendemos indagar en una de las facetas de esta relación e investigar el potencial argumentativo que muestran algunos procedimientos sintácticos de tematización y de focalización. Para ello caracterizamos brevemente las nociones clave de la estructura informativa y de la argumentación lingüística y estudiamos cómo se relacionan en el discurso. Centrándonos en el discurso periodístico como aquel que está inherentemente orientado a informar, y también a persuadir, delineamos la relevancia que ambos fenómenos presentan en la prensa. Con el propósito de acercarnos a un panorama general del potencial argumentativo que se vislumbra en la tematización y la focalización, examinamos finalmente un corpus de elaboración propia y analizamos los fines argumentativos con que se aprovechan ambos mecanismos.

    Information structure and argumentation are two phenomena so closely related that the information structuring resources show argumentative significance, and the argumentative mechanisms imply informational emphasis (Fuentes Rodríguez/ Alcaide Lara 2002, 224). Therefore, in the present article we aim to study one of the aspects of this relationship and investigate the argumentative potential displayed by some syntactic topicalization and focalization mechanisms. To this effect we briefly characterize the key notions of information structure and argumentation and study their relationship in discourse. Since we focus on the journalistic discourse as one inherently oriented to inform, and to persuade, we outline the relevance of both phenomena in the press. In order to get a general overview of the argumentative potential of topicalization and focalization, finally, we examine a corpus of our own elaboration and analyse the argumentative purposes for which both mechanisms are used.
