  • In his search for self-creation, Unamuno privileges himself as author over readers in the enigmatie work La novela de don Sandalio, jugador de ajedrez. Despite lis stated intention of furthering reader agency in ah of his writings, in Don Sandalio he inserts himself both directly and subtly between the text and the readers, controlling the reader's interpretation of the text and establishing himself as the ultimate arbiter of meaning.
