Juan José Pizarroso Serrano

  • Numerous peoples have had the Iberian Peninsula as the setting for their actions, but thenationalist movement of the nineteenth century gave Christian civilization precedence over the rest. Itwas then that the concept of “Reconquista” was coined in Spain, a widely debated term whose imprinton the collective memory makes it necessary to deal with it in the classroom. In this way, this researchwork aims to examine the presence –or absence– of the term in the educational curricula between 1939and 2022 and in the secondary education textbooks and textbooks published between these dates, as wellas to examine its impact on the shaping of the individual and social identity of students. We will focusspecifically on the case of the Valencian autonomous region, focusing on its own curricula and startingfrom the textbooks that can be consulted in the catalogue of the Faculty of Education of the University ofAlicante. Once we have reviewed the historiography on the concept of “Reconquista”, we will perceivethe speed of updating knowledge in educational content at national and regional regulatory level as wellas at specific classroom level through the study of the evolution and characteristics of its didactics.Ke
