This paper presents a literature review exploring the state of jazz pedagogy and teaching aimed at children aged 6 to 14 years, in an initial introduction to this musical genre. It seeks to highlight successful studies and practices incorporated into school settings in various educational contexts. The teaching of jazz as an educational proposal for music education is highlighted as an integrative learning model that fosters and develops students’ creativity through improvisation and musical creation. How- ever, gaps have been identified in the literature, particularly concerning the primary education context.
Therefore, the need to continue developing and exploring educational approaches related to jazz ped- agogy and creation in their application to primary and secondary education contexts is emphasized, establishing practical references connected to the educational reality of our country.
