En el siguiente trabajo se analiza la teoría del tiranicidio propuesta por el padre Juan de Mariana en “De Rege et Regis institutione” desde una perspectiva filológica. Este texto estableció uno de los debates modernos más intensos en torno a los límites del poder real y la soberanía popular, sufriendo juicios en Francia y numerosas persecuciones y críticas en los siglos posteriores. Si bien esta obra ha sido estudiada desde otras disciplinas, un enfoque filológico nos arroja una serie de datos que dan pie a nuevas preguntas, así como ofrece respuestas a cuestiones que la bibliografía sobre Mariana ya trata.

The following paper analyses the theory of tyrannicide by the Jesuit Juan de Mariana in his “De Rege et Regis institutione” from a philological perspective. Mariana’s text articulated one of the most intense debates in the early modern period about royal authority and people’s sovereignty, as well as it underwent trial in France and was criticisedin later centuries. Although this work has been thoroughly studied by many disciplines, ourphilological approach brings data which will not only pose new questions but also offer new answers and arguments to the main issues handled in the literature about Mariana.
