The objective of this study is to determine the practicality of the use of sockets and boxing wax for the practice of second-year dental students. The methodology used was the measurement of practicality, quantifying student work time without taking into account the setting time or other external variables; in terms of monetary expenditure, all the instruments used in the casting were added together. The results were that the average student's working time for casting in sockets (6:49 min/sec) is less compared to casting in boxing wax (22: 13 min/sec), and the money spent on instruments for socket casting ($45.92 in total expenditure and $40.00 for 1 pour) is also less compared to box wax casting ($51.44 and $42.65 for 1 pour), with socket casting being more practical for the student.
