De acuerdo con el filósofo norteamericano Edward Lee, la idea central del pasaje 52c de Timeo es: la imagen siempre es dependiente, por un lado, del modelo que representa, por otro, del medio donde aparece. Para Lee, la imagen-cosmos de Timeo es insustancial y contingente por depender de la presencia simultánea de las formas y de un receptáculo. Nos parece que ésta es una atribución artificial. La presente investigación busca brindar elementos para mostrar la artificialidad de dicha relación, con lo cual se pone a consideración que la imagen-cosmos del Timeo no es contingente, sino que se asemeja a imágenes artísticas o técnicas.

According to the American philosopher Edward Lee, the central idea of passage 52c of the Tiameus is: the image is always dependent; on the one side, to the model it represents, on the other, to the medium where it appears. For Lee, the Timaeus’s cosmos-image is an insubstantial and contingent image because it depends on the simultaneous presence of the Forms and a Receptacle. It seems to us an artificial attribution. In this way, the present research seeks to provide elements to show the artificiality of this relationship, which brings into consideration that the Timaeus’s cosmos-image isn’t contingent, but rather resembles artistic or technical images.
