    La Virgen María leyendo o interrumpiendo por un momento la lectura de un libro es una iconografía muy extendida para la representación de varias advocaciones marianas de gran devoción popular. El libro puede considerarse uno de los atributos o símbolos más característicos y de los que tienen un significado más profundo entre los varios que podemos ver acompañando las imágenes de la Virgen. Se comentan algunos ejemplos de imágenes pictóricas y escultóricas que encontramos en la ciudad de Sevilla que siguen el tipo iconográfico de la Virgen con un libro.

    The Virgin Mary reading or interrupting for a moment reading a book is a very widespread iconography for the representation of various Marian devotions of great popular devotion. The book can be considered one of the most characteristic attributes or symbols and one of those that have a deeper meaning among the several that we can see accompanying the images of the Virgin. Some examples of pictorial and sculptural images that we find in the city of Seville that follow the iconographic type of the Virgin with a book are discussed.
