El presente trabajo tiene como principal objetivo poner en orden nuestro conocimiento sobre las cofradías integradas por libertos y esclavos en España desde fines de la Edad Media hasta el siglo XVII, prestando especial atención al caso de Sevilla. Asimismo, persigue comprender su existencia desde la historicidad que explica y condiciona su creación, atendiendo a su naturaleza religiosa y al carácter social que significaba pertenecer a una cofradía en aquellos siglos, sin olvidar que su andadura dependió en última instancia de la actividad de los mercados esclavistas que nutrieron las ciudades en las que se fundaron

The main objective of this work is to put in order our knowledge about the confraternities made up of freedmen and slaves in Spain from the end of the Middle Ages until the 17th century, paying special attention to the case of Seville. It also seeks to understand their existence from the historicity that explains and conditions their creation, taking into account their religious nature and the social character that be longing to a confraternity meant in those centuries, without forgetting that their existence ultimately depended on the activity of the slave markets that nourished the cities in which they were founded.
