    En la génesis de la Primera Compañía Espiritual del Santo Rosario, en las postrimerías del siglo XVII en Cádiz, jugaron un papel fundamental distintas personas. Entre ellas sobresalen fray Pablo de Cádiz y María de Peñalba. El fraile capuchino fue, bajo los auspicios de José de Barcia y Zambrana, fundador de esta congregación rosariana y definidor del cortejo procesional de esta tipología de hermandades, dentro del ambiente misional de finales de esta centuria. María de Peñalba se erigió como benefactora de esta Primera Compañía Espiritual, sirviendo además como elemento aglutinador del movimiento popular que se consolidó en el gaditano barrio de La Viña en torno al Santo Rosario. La comunicación se basa en fuentes documentales primarias, muchas de ellas inéditas.

    In the beginnings of the First Spiritual Company of the Holy Rosary, at the end of the 17th century in Cádiz, different people played a fundamental role. Among them, fray Pablo de Cádiz and María de Peñalba stand out. The capuchin friar was, under the auspices of José de Barcia y Zambrana, founder of this rosarian congregation and definer of the processional order of this typology of brotherhoods, within the missionary environment at the end of this century. María de Peñalba was a benefactor of this First Spiritual Company, also serving as a unifying element of the popular movement that was consolidated in the neighborhood of La Viña around the Holy Rosary. The research is based on primary documentary sources, many of them unpublished.
