Mario Coyula Cowley no es solo una de las figuras más importantes de la arquitectura y el urbanismo cubanos de la segunda mitad del siglo XX, sino una personalidad de la cultura nacional. Lo anterior lo avalan su labor al frente de importantes tareas en el país y los libros y artículos donde dejó reflejado su pensamiento sobre la arquitectura y el urbanismo como una parte de la cultura, sobre el patrimonio construido como algo vivo vinculado al hombre y a la vida. El siguiente trabajo se propone rendir homenaje a esta personalidad regia de nuestra cultura. El texto se ha apoyado fundamentalmente en sus escritos y en material de archivo que aporta datos exactos sobre su vida y obra.

Mario Coyula Cowley is not only one of the most important figures of Cuban architecture and urbanism in the second half of the twentieth century, but a personality of national culture. We can say the above for his work as head of important tasks in Cuba, for his many books and articles, which reflected his thinking about architecture and urbanism as a part of culture and his ideas about the built heritage as linked to a living man and life. The following paper aims to pay tribute to this regal personality of our culture. His written papers and books and archive material that provides accurate data on his live and work has supported the text.
