Los archivos de la Orden del Temple en Portugal: la reconstrucción posible

    Los archivos templarios deben considerarse a un nivel plural: hay archivos nacionales y plurinacionales. Existe el archivo del convento, el archivo personal del maestre, los archivos de las encomiendas y los archivos de los comendadores. El archivo o los archivos templarios en Portugal tienen que ser pensados desde una distancia de varios cientos de años. Para ello, intentaremos reflexionar sobre dos cuestiones: en primer lugar, la constitución temporal de los archivos templarios en Portugal, a partir de 1128 aproximadamente; y, en segundo lugar, su dispersión tras la supresión de la Orden del Temple después de 1312. Al mismo tiempo, analizaremos la posibilidad de crear un cartulario de la Orden del Temple en Portugal. A diferencia de otros reinos ibéricos, no se conocen cartularios templarios medievales en Portugal. Por ello, fue necesario recopilar la documentación templaria identificada principalmente en los archivos nacionales para crear lo que se denominó el Cartulario de la Orden del Temple en Portugal.

    The Templar archives should be considered at a plural level: there are national and multinational archives. These include the convent archives, the master’s archives, the commendatory archives, and the commendators’ archives. The Templar archives in Portugal should be viewed over a span of several hundred years. To this end, we will reflect on two issues: first, the temporal constitution of the Templar archives in Portugal from around 1128 onwards, and second, their dispersal following the suppression of the Order of the Temple after 1312. At the same time, we will analyse the possibility of creating a cartulary of the Order of the Temple in Portugal. Unlike in other Iberian kingdoms, there are no known medieval Templar cartularies in Portugal. Therefore, it was necessary to compile the Templar documentation identified mainly in national archives to create the so-called Cartulary of the Order of the Temple in Portugal.
