La formación de la nación cubana constituye la columna vertebral del discurso histórico cubano, con un marcado carácter ideológico. El presente artículo sintetiza las posturas teóricas fundamentales en torno a dicha cuestión en el contexto republicano; fundamentalmente desde las corrientes historiográficas nacionalista y marxista que, más allá de las diferencias ideológicas, tienen un fundamento común: la defensa de la tradición patriótico-nacionalista de inspiración martiana. Este tema historiográfico medular se analiza desde temáticas específicas; entre estas, la valoración de la burguesía cubana, las corrientes de pensamiento del siglo XIX cubano, el proceso de liberación nacional y la reflexión en torno a la experiencia republicana. Este importante tema historiográfico, que no se agota en el período republicano, constituye un fundamento de la historiografía de la Revolución cubana.

The formation of the Cuban nation constitutes the backbone of cuban historical discourse with a marked ideological character. This article summarizes the fundamental theoretical positions around this issue in the republican context fundamentally from the nationalist and Marxist historiographic currents that, beyond ideological differences have as a common foundation the defense of the patriotic-nationalist tradition inspired by Martí. This core historiographical topic is analyzed from specific themes such as the assessment of the Cuban bourgeoisie, the currents of thought of the Cuban 19th century, the process of national liberation and the reflection on the republican experience. This important historiographical theme, which is not exhausted in the republican period, constitutes a foundation of the historiography of the Cuban Revolution.
