Algunas inscripciones en latín (CIL X 8318.7494.7495) y en griego (IG XIV 601.602.953) proporcionan una información exclusiva y fundamental sobre la historia política e institucional de Melita en el período comprendido entre el siglo I a.C. y el II d.C. El análisis de dicha documentación revela, por un lado, la imagen de una isla ya plenamente inserta en el proceso de municipalización y de integración en la administración provincial romana; pero, por el otro, revela la firme voluntad de sus habitantes de cultivar y preservar ciertos aspectos lingüísticos e institucionales ligados al sustrato cultural púnico y siciliota.

Texts in Latin (CIL X 8318.7494.7495) and Greek (IG XIV 601.602.953) offer exclusive and fundamental information on the political and institutional history of Melita in the period between the 1st century BC and the 2nd century AD. From the analysis of these documents, a picture emerges of an island that, on the one hand, is already well involved in the process of municipalization and integration into the provincial administration carried out by the Roman government; on the other hand, Melita and its inhabitants also demonstrate a willingness to cultivate and preserve linguistic and institutional aspects linked to the Punic and Siceliote cultural background.

Testi in lingua latina (CIL X 8318.7494.7495) e in lingua greca (IG XIV 601.602.953) offrono informazioni esclusive e fondamentali sulla storia politica e istituzionale di Melita nel periodo compreso tra i secoli I a.C. e II d.C. Dall’analisi di tali documenti emerge il quadro di un’isola, che da un lato è ormai perfettamente inserita nel processo di municipalizzazione e di integrazione nell’amministrazione provinciale operato dal governo romano; dall’altro lato Melita e i suoi abitanti dimostrano anche la volontà di coltivare e preservare aspetti linguistici e istituzionali legati al sostrato culturale punico e siceliota.
