In this "Approach to the Spanish Literature of the Middle Ages" we intend to present a general overview that offers a historical and conceptual structure to support the teaching and learning of the subject "Texts of the Spanish Medieval Literature" of the degree in Hispanic Philology of the University of Extremadura. It tries to combine the panoramic development, offering the evolutionary synthesis of the different genres of the Castilian medieval literature, with the analysis of five representative works of her literary production: the Cantar de Mio Cid, the Libro de buen amor, the anthology of the Romancero of Paloma Díaz-Mas, published by the publishing house Crítica, El conde Lucanor and La Celestina. Therefore, the chapters of the manual are structured by genres (poetry, themes two, three and four; prose, themes five and six; and theatre, themes seven and eight). In its study, the different genres are illustrated with a "Didactic Anthology" in which significant fragments of all the genres studied are offered to the student. Some of these texts have been included in this Approach to teach students how they should read and analyze them in their personal study.
