Resumen

• On Friday 26th November 2010 the Department IBC (University of Antwerp) and the Department of SocialSciences and Languages (Antwerp Maritime Academy) welcomed experts experts in maritime communication to an international workshop on "Effective Communication at Sea", arranged jointly by the University of Antwerp and the Antwerp Maritime Academy in order to exchange knowledge at an international level and create new research perspectives.

  The workshop was organised by Lieve Vangehuchten (University of Antwerp, Belgium), Willy Van Parys (Antwerp Maritime Academy - Hogere Zeevaartschool, Belgium) and Alison Noble (Antwerp Maritime Academy- Hogere Zeevaartschool, Belgium). Boris Pritchard (Faculty of Maritime Studies, University of Rijeka, Croatia), Janusz Uriasz (Institute of Marine Technology, Maritime University of Szczecin, Poland), Rosa Mary de la Campa Portela, (Universidade da Coruña, Spain) and Carmen Chirea-Ungureanu (Constanta Maritime University, Romania) attended the workshop.

  The present collection of papers is the result of this workshop, which brought together a number of international specialists with the aim of creatinga network for an international centre ofexcellence.
