La presente tesis doctoral presenta una investigación pionera en España sobre los estudios de comunicación profundizando en las estructuras mediáticas que tienen lugar en el continente africano y, en particular, en Kenia. Consta de dos partes diferenciadas, pero complementarias entre sí. La primera de ellas analiza las dinámicas de algunos conglomerados internacionales que estarían buscando nuevos mercados en África y también examina cuatro ejemplos africanos de grupos mediáticos. La segunda parte se centra en el estudio de caso de Kenia: por un lado, se investiga la evolución histórica de los medios desde sus orígenes junto al papel que han desempeñado los cuatro presidentes a la hora de legislar sobre ellos; y, por otro, se estudian los cinco principales conglomerados de medios visibilizando las relaciones políticas y económicas entre sus propietarios para finalmente esclarecer la estructura de la información keniana.

This thesis presents pioneering research in Spain in communication studies, delving into the media structures that exist on the African continent and, in particular, in Kenya. It consists of two distinct parts, which are complementary to each other. The first analyses the dynamics of some of the international conglomerates that are seeking new markets in Africa, and also examines four African examples of media groups. The second part focuses on the case study of Kenya: on the one hand, it investigates the historical evolution of the media from its origins, together with the role played by the four Presidents at the time of legislating in their regard; and, on the other hand, by studying the five major media conglomerates, it highlights the political and economic relations between their owners in order to shed some light on Kenya's information structure.
