Resumen de Optical fiber bragg gratings: fiber lasers and microwave photonics

Pere Pérez-Millán

  • A preliminary objective of this thesis work has been the development of a versatile system of fabrication of fiber Bragg gratings, which could provide us with gratings presenting the appropriate properties to be utilized for their application in fiber laser and microwave photonics applications. Such a fabrication system is explained in chapter 2, together with a description of the theoretical method utilized for designing and modelling the fabricated gratings. The properties and specific fabrication strategies of each type of grating are also explained, with special emphasis on a novel method of inscribing chirped FBGs. Chapter 3 is devoted to different fiber laser configurations fabricated with specifically designed FBGs and working under magnetostriction effect-based Q-switched regime. Chapter 4 presents the investigation carried out on generation, transmission and processing of microwave signals by photonic means, focused on the exploitation of the properties of FBGs designed and fabricated for specific applications on each area. Finally, chapter 5 states a set of ideas and proposals for a possible future work seeded by this PhD thesis.
