  • Resumen
    • The thesis warns that in our contemporaneity persists paradoxically, both a rejection of the interest that poetics could have for architecture, and a big critique towards the uncertain quality that arise the practices that, consciously or unconsciously, are separated from a certainly rational thinking that, with its fruitful complexities and contradictions, accompanies artistic creativity for more than two thousand years. Faced with this situation, it is proposed to question the value and validity of an Aristotelian poetics in the architecture project, because it opens the suspicion that, precisely behind some of these teachings - beforehand usually censored by most architects- in fact, some of the contemporary practices closer to the essential meaning of the still-current reference of our intellectual activity could be supported; the modern architecture. The investigation starts raising the possibility that some of the architects who belong to our closest and most recent activity, still today share the same essentially inventive poetic attitude, with which some of the most illustrious architects of modernity revolutionized the architecture of the XX century with its incessant vigilance of the temporality of the sufferings, customs and needs of man. To verify this proposal, it is decided to delimit the framework in the architecture carried out in the Catalan territory, specify the object of study in one of the singular phenomena of the chosen context; the extensive attention to the architecture-landscape relationship and, finally, to cover the artistic referents to be studied, delimiting the cases of study. As possible paradigms of modern Catalan architecture are chosen La Ricarda by Antonio Bonet Castellana (1949-1963) and the Casa Ugalde (1951-1955) by Jose Antonio Coderch. On the other hand, and as possible contemporary exemplars, the Parc Cementiri Nou d’Igualada (1985-1996) by Enric Miralles and Carme Pinós and the Parc de Pedra Tosca by Rafael Aranda, Carme Pigem and Ramon Vilalta. Going through these works, focusing the attention to their dramatic structure and addressing the issue of landscape, it soon becomes clear that there is a renewed view - away from a "landscape" perspective, physically reduced and next to the notion of culture and climate- which shows a change of meaning in one of the most singular pathos of our time. Something that allows to notice that more than ever it is convenient to look at those who precisely hold an authentic poetic attitude in architecture, because the thesis deduces that, only if the architect is able to proclaim this inventive positioning towards the physical and social constructed environment that is fundamental for the life of human being, will be really capable - as did the authors studied- to perceive facts that explain for example that it is no longer possible to continue thinking that the prolific metaphors that throughout history have allowed to consider architecture as landscape or landscape as architecture, may be worth the same answers given by one of our most illustrious architects more than half a century ago. Considering that, although these particular mechanisms of poetic transformation, will continue to be a constant in the project of the architect-both to put in value the physical and temporal dimensions of a place to make it into a landscape, as to make these same dimensions of a landscape become in the essential knowledge constitutive of architecture, not all models learned from the past, will have a place in the set of truly cultural mythos that are really building today the future of the XXI century in general, and in particular, in contemporary Catalan architecture; vanguard of a possible Aristotelian poetics in architecture.
