  • Resumen
    • The research is directed towards unraveling the fundamental mechanisms responsible for the cooperative expression of molecular chirality in molecular recognition event, specifically, the formation of host-guest inclusion complexes and self-assembly processes, employing chiroptical spectroscopy and NMR. For this purpose, novel chiral cyclic structures capable of recognizing biologically or environmentally significant small molecules (species containing ammonium groups) and exhibiting chiroptical responses to complexation will be designed. Various macrocycles incorporating diethynylallenes (DEAs) and functionalized aromatic spacers will be synthesized and characterized, with a focus on differently functionalized pyrazines and pyridines as primary subjects of investigation. The diverse functionalization of the molecules under study will enable the attachment of considerably varied subunits, facilitating the examination of modifications in macrocycle properties based on each substitution. Our research group holds expertise in studying host-guest complexes using UV-Vis/CD, NMR, and X-ray diffraction. The exploration of molecular recognition of biologically relevant species by the synthesized structures primarily occurs through hydrogen bonds and hydrophobic interactions. In our investigation, we aim to elucidate pivotal aspects related to ion transport across membranes, such as in cystic fibrosis, and pH variations in cancer processes.
