    El siglo XXI viene con muchos desafíos nuevos, como el tráfico y los trancones, los colapsos del mercado financiero, enfermedades como el cáncer o el SIDA, virus y pandemias como el Covid 19 , el cambio climático, guerras y procesos de paz. Existen algunas habilidades especiales necesarias para hacer frente a estos nuevos desafíos complejos. Se ha vuelto cada vez más evidente que los problemas y retos que enfrentamos en estos días son complejos y altamente interrelacionados y requieren un nuevo enfoque para afrontarlos. La Complejidad está profundamente arraigada en nuestra vida cotidiana. Desde la ingeniería, existen una gran variedad de habilidades y herramientas que tienen como objetivo resolver problemas complejos. Particularmente en Ingeniería Industrial, el enfoque de sistemas se ha enseñado a nuevas generaciones de estudiantes desde hace algunos años y este proporciona información relevante sobre los sistemas en los que se aplican y las propiedades emergentes que pueden surgir de una colección de elementos que interactúan en estos; Los ingenieros industriales también aprenden habilidades y herramientas propias de la Gestión de Proyectos como el trabajo en equipo, liderazgo entre otros lo que permite que puedan monitorear y controlar adecuadamente la ejecución exitosa de un proyecto en el tiempo . Otras habilidades importantes como escuchar en contexto, la identificación de condiciones estructurales, reconocer la Agencia Política para asegurar la movilización de poder para desafiar las estructuras que perpetúan la inequidad, el aumentar el acceso a oportunidades y recursos, disminuir riesgos y daños, mejorar las capacidades humanas, la participación de la comunidad o organización participativa en los procesos de co-creación de una solución para que legitimen no solo la solución propuesta sino también el proceso que ayudó a crearla y para que los proyectos tengan continuidad en el tiempo .     The 21st century comes with a lot of new challenges, traffic & traffic jams, financial market crashes, sickness likecancer, HIV, Virus, pandemic like Covid-19, climate change, wars, and peace processes. There are some special skills needed to face these new challenges. It has become increasingly evident that problems we face these days are highly interlinked, complex and they require a new approach to face them. Complexity is deeply engrained in our everyday lives and in the problems we face. From engineering, there are a great variety of skills and tools that aim to solve complex problems, particularly in Industrial engineering where the systems approach has been taught to new generation of students for some years now and it provides relevant information about the systems in which they are applied and the emergent properties that can develop from a collection of interacting elements; Industrial engineers also learn Project Management Skills and soft skills like teamwork, leadership among others' so that we are able to adequately monitor and control the successful execution of a project. Other important skills like listening in context, the identification of structural conditions, acknowledging political agency to ensure the mobilization of power to challenge inequity perpetuating structures, the increase in access to opportunities and resources, decreasing risks and harms, enhancing human capabilities, the involvement of the community or organization in a participatory way in the co-creation of a solution so that they legitimize not just the proposed solution but also the process that helped create her and so that the projects have continuity. Many of these tools are used separately and the synergy between them is not common to propose integrative viable solutions. This thesis focuses on the role of engineers while intervening complex social system particularly aimed to support peacebuilding projects and working along peacebuilding communities in Colombia.
