This project aims to improve the quality of debate regarding the future of pensions through a media study which analyzes economic, political and sociological aspects of two different newspapers key to the history of Spain; EL PAÍS and ABC. The study starts with the Toledo Pact, a fundamental agreement about reforming the public pension system. The Pact agreed to a series of measures to financially balance the social security system. It was unanimously approved by the House of Representatives in April, 1995. The study closes by comparatively looking at the reform of 2011 as another important factor shaping the tribulations of the pension system. This paper examines the pension system through two newspapers as sources of general information in a recent period of Spanish history. We want to check whether mass media is a good way to research economic history. For our research methodology, we utilized qualitative and quantitative approaches. The paper is divided into two parts.
