    • To obtain a regeneration and integration of gingival tissues onto the dental implant surface, is essential to achieve an appropriate cellular response. To promote an appropriate cellular response, materials surface has been frequently coated with a number of proteins, peptides and other biomolecules with similar properties to those of extracellular matrix proteins, which provides cell binding sites. Thus, the strategy proposed in this work to promote the integration of the gingival tissue over the implant is the biofunctionalization of titanium surface with type I collagen, which has GFOGER amino acid sequences that promote fibroblast response and thereby significantly reducing recovery time of the tissues post-implantation is expected. The studies performed in this work analyzed in depth the influence of both the method of metal surface activation (plasma or acid attack), such as collagen-binding method (physisorption or covalent bond by silanes), on the amount, stability and conformation of collagen layer immobilized on titanium, and ultimately the influence of collagen on fibroblast adhesion, proliferation, and activation, as well as the influence on the beginning of secretion and reorganization of extracellular matrix.
