En este artículo se presentan argumentos para contribuir a la superación de una didáctica tradicional del texto escolar. Siguiendo y aplicando las concepciones teóricas de Raymond Williams sobre la tradición selectiva, se destaca la existencia de una función explícita y de una función latente del texto escolar. La función explícita del texto escolar, aquí denominada manifiesta, es la de entregar conocimientos, informar, comunicar, desarrollar destrezas en los alumnos y proporcionar explicaciones. La función latente, aquí llamada selectiva, consiste en enfatizar y destacar ciertos conocimientos de la cultura, omitiendo otros, y presentarlos como los oficiales, verdaderos y legítimos; no pocas veces se trata de los productos culturales de los sectores socialmente dominante. La discusión se ilustra con ejemplos del contexto nórdico y latinoamericano.

In this article it is argued to contribute to the overcoming of traditional didactic approach of the schools text. Following and applying the conception of the selective tradition of Raymond Williams, the existence of a manifest function and a latent function of the schools text stands out. The manifest function is to give knowledge, to inform, to communicate, to develop skills in the student and to provide explanations. The selective or latent function it consists of emphasizing certain knowledge of the culture, omitting others and presents them like the officials, true and legitimate. Very often are the cultural products of the socially dominant sectors. The discussion acquires knowledge with examples of the Nordic and Latin American context.
