In our attempt to analyze the temporal and narrative techniques found in J.M.G.
Le Clézio’s La Quarantaine, we have seen how the writer created two opposite universes. On the one hand, Le Clézio deals with monumental time, represented by authoritative figures, and on the other hand, he introduces a time which can be considered mythic as well as mystic: the time experienced by Leon, the main character.
Leon becomes “the other” and identifies himself with Rimbaud, the poet. Just like him, he develops into a cursed character.
