    el alcohol es un elemento siempre presente en celebraciones indígenas americanas. De la misma manera, la figuración de un axis mundi también es comprobable. Desde esa realidad, se analiza a la higuera, el alcohol y el diablo en los relatos campesinos de la zona centro sur de Chile, de clara influencia mapuche. Se intentará responder por qué, cómo y cuándo se asoció a la higuera con la borrachera, el exceso y el mundo indígena y, por extensión, con la temida figura del demonio.

    alcohol is an always present element in american indigenous celebrations. Similarly, the figure of axis mundi is also verifiable. From that reality, we analized the fig, the alcohol and the devil in peasant stories from the center-south region of Chile, mapuche area. We�ll try to answer why, how and when the fig tree was associate with drunk, excess and indigenous world and, because of that, with the figure of the devil.
