    El siguiente artículo trata de explorar la naturaleza del western y sus relaciones deliberadamente problemáticas con la historia real que lo convirtieron, en muchos casos, en un instrumento idóneo para discutir o denunciar asuntos que no tenían nada que ver con el mundo del far west y que no podían tematizarse abiertamente por culpa de la censura. La retórica del western, por eso, permanece fiel a unos rasgos básicos que componen un mito fácilmente reconocible aunque también sorprendentemente moldeable a los designios de los autores. El propósito de este artículo es mostrar algunos de esos ejemplos y captar cómo el sacrificio de la fidelidad a la realidad histórica otorgaba de manera indirecta una gran libertad de expresión y, asimismo, dio una popularidad a este género camaleónico.

    This work tries to explore into the nature of the Western and its problematic relationships with the real facts, which made it a suitable mean in order to discuss or report many issues, that hadn't anything to do with the far west and couldn't be expressed publicly because of the censorship. Therefore Western's rhetoric had only to respect some basic features that could hide the movie into the myth, which is easy to be recognized but really adaptable to the authors' aims as well. The purpose of this paper is to show several of these examples and to get how the sacrifice to the real facts was actually the way which gave to the Western a big freedom of speech and, likewise, popularized this genre.
