    La biblioteca para pacientes dentro de un hospital universitario como es el Clínico de Madrid cumple las tres funciones principales: asistencial, docente e investigadora. La función asistencial se realiza a través del servicio de préstamo de libros y revistas día a día. La función docente se cumple con las prácticas de alumnos que proceden de las ciencias de la salud, la educación, la biblioteca y documentación y participan en el Programa Salud y Lectura. La función investigadora se cumple con los informes trimestrales de las actividades del servicio, así como el análisis descriptivo de la oferta y demanda de la biblioteca año tras año. Además, podemos hablar de una función innovadora con la creación de la Red de Bibliotecas para Pacientes.

    The library for patients within a university hospital, as it is the «Hospital Clinico de Madrid», fulfils the three main functions: welfare, teaching and researching. The welfare function is carried out through service of book loan and magazines day by day The teaching function is fulfilled with the practices of students who come from the degree of health sciences, education or library and documentation and they participate in the Health and Reading Program. The research function is fulfilled by the quarterly reports of the service’s activities, as well as, the descriptive analysis of the library supply and demand year after year.

    In addition, is also added the innovative function and we have established the Patient Library Network
