Eficacia de las redes sociales científicas en la enseñanza superior: el uso de Gnoss

    Este escrito analiza la importancia del uso de las redes sociales al servicio de la educación universitaria. En primer lugar, estudia la situación general y compara las características y aprovechamiento del e-learning basado en plataformas tipo Moodle frente a las que se basan en redes abiertas científicas y que permiten compartir el conocimiento.

    Después analiza los resultados de una investigación muy reciente, realizada sobre dos aulas que han incorporado el curso pasado (2010-2011) una de estas redes sociales científicas: Gnoss, una plataforma 3.0 de grandes potencialidades. En un aula los alumnos utilizaron Gnoss especialmente para realizar prácticas, durante todo el curso (dos cuatrimestres) y de forma obligatoria. En la otra aula Gnoss se utilizó para todo tipo de actividades, durante sólo un cuatrimestre y de forma voluntaria.

    Además del uso de Gnoss, esta investigación permitió conocer otros aspectos de la cultura digital y de los hábitos informático s de los alumnos universitarios, como el uso del ordenador y a qué tareas se destina, el tiempo destinado a las redes sociales y el orden de preferencia, el uso del correo electrónico, etc.

    Las comparaciones entre ambas aulas y el elevado número de alumnos contenidos en ellas (más de 200) hacen bastante generalizables los conocimientos obtenidos y permiten extrapolar para qué usos pueden resultar más adecuadas las plataformas digitales aplicadas a la enseñanza superior, además de mostrar con claridad -según entienden los autores a partir de los datos obtenidos- que aquellos entornos digitales que ponen el conocimiento en red ofrecen mayores posibilidades y muestran mayor flexibilidad en el uso, tal y como aprecian los alumnos.

    This writing analyzes the importance of the use of the social networks to the service of the university education. First, it analyzes the situation and compares the characteristics and utilization of the e-learning models based on platforms type Moodle versus the other models based on opened-scientific-networks which allow to share the knowledge.

    After that it analyzes the conclusions of a very recent investigation, realized on two classrooms wich have incorporated during the past course (2010-2011) one of this social-scientific-networks: Gnoss, a platform 3.0 which offer a big potential. In one classroom the pupils used Gnoss specially to fulfill the practices of the subject, during the whole course (two four-month periods) and the use of Gnoss was mandatory to approve the discipline. In the other classroom Gnoss was used for all kinds of activities, during only a four-month period and the use of Gnoss was highly recommended but voluntary. Besides the use of Gnoss, we developed this investigation to know other aspects of the digital culture and for the IT habits of the university pupils, as the use of the computer and the time used in the different tasks, the time destined for the social networks, the use of the e-mail, etc.

    The comparisons between both classrooms and the high number of pupils contained in them (more than 200) make us think that the data obtained can be generalized, and allow us to extrapolate the kind of uses more suitables for the digital platforms applied to the Universitary education. In our opinion, this experience is showing clearly that the digital environments -that can put the knowledge in network- offer major possibilities and gives more flexibility in the use, aspects that are perceived by the pupils.
