    Do ponto de vista do marco legal do sistema educacional brasileiro, a educação abrange os processos formativos que se desenvolvem na vida familiar, na convivência humana, no trabalho, nas instituições de ensino e pesquisa, nos movimentos sociais e organizações da sociedade civil e nas manifestações culturais (Art.1ª LDB/1996). Este trabalho parte de uma investigação mais ampla realizada ao abrigo do Projeto processo 401.468/2009-7-CNPq/UFAM, com o objetivo analisar representações de estudantes da UFAM e UFGD acerca da função orientadora da universidade e dos professores. Recorremos a uma amostra de 1.347 estudantes de diversos cursos da Universidade Federal do Amazonas e do Mato Grosso do Sul que responderam a três instrumentos próprios de avaliação psicopedagógica detalhados neste texto. Os resultados indicam diferentes necessidades de orientação bem como seus efeitos sobre o rendimento acadêmico P < 0,000. Conclui-se pela validade dos instrumentos que apresentam características que os qualificam para a avaliação da função orientadora da universidade e dos professores apontando para a realização de pesquisas longitudinais neste domínio e de novas investigações que contribuam para a criação de políticas públicas para a melhoria da orientação no ensino superior.

    From the point of view of the legal mark of the Brazilian educational system, the education embraces forming processes that are developed in family life, in human co-habit, at work, at institutions of teaching and research, in social movements and organizations of the civil society and in cultural manifestations (Art. 1ª LDB/1996). This work is part of a wider investigation accomplished with the support of the Project process 401.468/2009-7- CNPq/UFAM, with the objective of analyzing representations of students from UFAM and UFGD about the orientation role of the university and teachers. The research was based on a sample of 1.347 students from several courses of the Federal University of Amazonas and Mato Grosso do Sul that answered three proper instruments of psychopedagogical evaluation detailed in this text. The results show different needs of orientation as well as its effects on academic performance P < 0,000. It is concluded for the validity of the instruments that present characteristics that qualifies them for the evaluation of the oriented function of both the university and the teacher pointing to the accomplishment of the longitudinal researches in this field and of new investigations that it can contribute for the creation of public policies for the improvement of orientation in higher education.
