The writer describes the employment opportunities for local artists that arose due to the visit that Maximilian of Austria, son of Roman Emperor Ferdinand I and King of Bohemia, paid to Emperor Charles V at the Coudenberg Palace, Brussels, in 1556. The royal courts service required artists and artisans to decorate the reception rooms of the palace and to ensure the comfort of the important visitors.
