  • Resumen
    • The purpose of this work was to evaluate the establishment of Gliricidia sepium with different sowing densities in conditions of dry tropic. We used an analysis of the variance in a random design with three repetitionsevery treatment. Four different densities were used: a) 10 000 plants/ha, b) 20 000 plants/ha, c) 40 000 plants/ha, and d) 125 000 plants/ha. The trees were sowed in sandy textured soil with medium/low fertility, a ph of 7.3, and poor in organic matter. The practice was fulfilled during the rainy season, without fertilization. Weed control was done by hand 15 days after emergence. The variables were heigt, number of leaves, stalk’s thickness, survival and dry matter production that were measured monthly. Statistical differences were found in the number of leaves, dry matter production, and survival of the differents treatments (P < .05). The treatment with a higher density presented fewer leaves, higher production of dry matter and the highest porcentage of plants surviving, although the latter was statistically similar to the treatments with 20 000 and 40 000 plants/ha. In this conditions, the treatment with 125 000 plants/ha favors the production of dry matter, having a high degree of survival.
