    • In the year 1791, the governor of the eastern department Juan Bautista Vaillant, send a report to the Crown about the construction of the fourth cathedral. This report would become a model document on the theory and defense of indigenous architecture of Santiago de Cuba. For Francisco Prat Puig the project of City Hall (1951) was a challenge that served to demonstrate in practice what it was the Cuban architecture and its proper interpretation. He tried to building with antiseismic guarantees, security and fireproofing. His training as an archaeologist allowed without knowing the report Vaillant, working in the same direction. Today, the restoration works performed by the City Preservers Office (after hurricane Sandy) reveal this tradition in architecture in Santiago as a strength of the whole Cuban Nation.
