    • The modern movement started to develop in Camagüey city in the 1950s, and in the Old Town this movement had its greatest expression through the apartment buildings, which represented an important advance to the area�s image. This research paper focuses on this repertoire in order to expose its architectural and urban characteristics. After setting out these buildings� aesthetics and functional values, as well as its negative impacts, guidelines in favor of its preservation are proposed to assist the repertoire�s interests. Moreover, proper ways of protection and intervention are recommended. Different uses which are suitable for the low plants are also established, and the intervention�s priorities according to its values, location and constructive state. The purpose of this investigation is to recognize these buildings as witnesses of the development of modernity in the Old Town, an important patrimony that is threaten with disappearance.
