    Durante los últimos años del reinado de Felipe III la villa de Madrid redobló sus esfuerzos por consolidar su posición como capital de la Monarquía Hispánica. En este proceso, largo y complejo, en el que la construcción de una imagen prestigiosa de la ciudad –en términos de antigüedad, nobleza y religión— jugó un papel principal, se inserta el interés por definir la iconografía del Alcázar como edificio simbólico del poder real asociado a la realidad física de Madrid. El presente estudio pretende analizar la evolución constructiva de la nueva fachada del Alcázar, con sus diferentes alternativas, incorporando al análisis histórico las planimetrías de Madrid de Frederick de Wit y Alexis-Hubert Jaillot.

    In the last years of the reign of Felipe III, the city of Madrid redoubled its efforts to consolidate its position as the capital of the Spanish Monarchy. In this long and complex process, the construction of a prestigious image of the city –in terms of antiquity, nobility and religion— played a main role. The interest in defining the iconography of the Alcázar as a symbolic building of royal power associated with the physical reality of Madrid was understood. This study aims to analyze the evolution of the new facade of the Alcazar, with its different changes, by using the maps of Madrid made by Frederick Wit and Alexis-Hubert Jaillot in the historical analysis.
