    • At the end of nineteenth century, the structural material most used was iron, it had an evolution in its production process and use, which caused its spread massively and finished by replacing other materials. The material underwent a process of evolution starting from wrought and cast iron. After that, this material becomes steel, alloy that is more resistant. The ancient department store in México City�s downtown, today �Gran Hotel de la Ciudad de México� underwent a major intervention in the first decade of the century that exposed building systems based on matters referred. The present study describes these building systems and emphasizes the interaction of the structure with the aesthetic
