An expression suitable to estimate the refractive index of Ga_(1-x)In_(x)N_(y)As_(1-y) with 0 = x = 0.4 and 0 = y = 0.04 for band gap energies from 0.8 to 1.1 eV is presented. In case of Ga_(1-x)In_(x)As, an improved expression, which shows better agreement with experimental data than previously reported expression, is proposed.
